About Our Oil & Vinegar Supplier, Veronica Foods...
We are extremely proud to report that our prestigious supplier, Veronica Foods, is the oldest, continuously operating importer of olive oils and balsamic vinegars in North America. CEO Veronica Bradley communicates the company goal as "making the finest, freshest, most broad selection of Extra Virgin Olive Oils in the world accessible to the serious consumer at prices that are both reasonable and affordable".
Their company was founded in New York City in 1924 by Italian immigrant Salvatore Esposito. The Delizia Olive Oil brand was transferred from Naples, Italy and registered in the United States in the same year. The Esposito family moved west to Oakland, CA in the late 1930's with the hope of building the first olive oil mill in the U.S. Those plans were put on hold when 3 of the 4 sons joined the military at the beginning of WWII. The business was eventually transferred to the 4th and eldest son, Anthony, who ran it until his retirement in 1989. At that point the olive oil portion, kept as a honored family tradition, only accounted for 6 tenths of 1 percent of the company's business. That's when founder Salvatore Esposito's granddaughter Veronica, and her husband Michael Bradley, stepped in to take the reigns. They realized they either needed to abandon the olive oil portion, or become committed in a much more serious way. Thankfully they chose the latter, and soon became obsessed with olive oil. The fruits of their intensive labors of learning as much as possible about what makes quality oils and vinegars can be enjoyed by us all today. They have developed their own set of quality standards far above the rest of the world's (which they term "UP" for "Ultra Premium"). These higher standards, as well as diligent efforts to ensure they are followed, result in products that are far superior to any others available in North America. It is a treat to try their amazingly fresh oils and artisanally crafted balsamic vinegars and truly enjoy the quality!
